We stayed at the Bos de Duin flat hotel. Our flat was relatively small but functionally furnished. There are a variety of restaurants on Texel, and we would definitely recommend the pizzeria Buon Appetito in Den Burg. A visit to the Texel Bird Information Centre in De Cocksdorp is a great experience for any nature lover. Here you will find lots of books, equipment, binoculars and spotting scopes to try out and buy.

Observation area
On Texel, it’s hard to emphasise one area in particular because there are so many observation opportunities. I have marked special places on the map. On the beach, we had fun watching the nimble sandpipers. They are not easy to photograph because they run up and down the edge of the waves so quickly. Nevertheless, I managed to get a few nice shots of them lying on the sand. An Odin’s grouse was reported at De Marel nature centre, but unfortunately we didn’t see it. However, we were able to photograph a hawk at close range. When it noticed us and looked at us, we could see that it had different eyes.
We travelled with a small group for a day with local expert Jos van den Berg. He knew exactly where which sightings were possible. Without him, I would never have spotted the razorbill or the black-necked grebe (unfortunately only at spotting scope distance).
