Cemeteries are a good place to photograph birds. The flight distance of the birds is shorter because they are used to people visiting. A pair of kestrels regularly breed in a window of the Perter and Paul Church in Heepen (on the edge of the Heeper Cemetery in Bielefeld). I was there regularly to take photos. In April 2021, I managed to observe a special situation. I was photographing a female falcon and noticed that she was very excited. Then her husband arrived with his „bridal gift“. The lady falcon flew to a neighbouring tree to eat the treat. Even though the photos are very similar, I think the resulting photo series is worth seeing.
Nachwuchs
Three months later, I watched the young kestrels as they slowly fledged. The first brave young kestrels had already travelled the first few metres to the opposite tree. A few stragglers were still excitedly gathering courage in the window at home.
Selection of further cemetery photos.
