Ahsewiesen (Soest)
The Ahsewiese are located roughly halfway between Hamm and Soest. It is a nature reserve with green areas and wet meadows. A beautiful observation hut with seating for nature lovers has been built here. I was able to make observations and take some nice photos, especially in spring and autumn.
I loved the great egrets that had fun teasing each other in the autumn fog. With a little patience, you can watch the kingfisher. I saw it regularly, but only when I was alone in the hut. His favourite place seems to be the pole in front of the hut, from where he looks out for prey. Once I was lucky and he made a shaking flight quite close to the hut.
Disselmersch (Soest)
Not far from the Ahse meadows is the Disselmersch. Here you can also watch birds at a small pond from an observation hut. Depending on the season, the surrounding green areas are flooded. I was able to take some nice photos in spring and autumn. The whitethroat was nesting in the immediate vicinity of the hut and was easy to photograph.
